ON THE DEATH OF KEN SARO-WIWA

WRITTEN BY: Ken Saro-Wiwa
DIRECTED BY: Albert Egbe

Ken Saro-Wiwa was a political and environmental activist, a journalist, novelist, writer, television and film producer, entrepreneur, public servant and publisher. He was the founding member of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP). He dedicated his life to the causes of indigenous and civil rights, and environmental justice for the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, which is notorious to this day for the actions of oil companies, poverty, corruption and civil unrest.

“On November 10th 1995, Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight Ogoni colleagues were executed by the Nigerian state for campaigning against the devastation of the Niger Delta by oil companies, especially Shell and Chevron.”

ON THE DEATH OF KEN SARO-WIWA is the story of the last days of Ken Saro-Wiwa before he was executed. This is a journey between him and his executioner. It explores his views on how even in death the Nigerian government would rob him. He foretold his own death and the way in which it happened and, ironically, gives hope to the living.
