Born in the Free State, Sechaba grew up singing but never took music seriously, even while singing and playing the keyboard in church. He was barely out of his teens when he sold his phone for money for a taxi and left his home town to find a job in Johannesburg, to help support his family.

Discovering that jobs were no...t easier to come across in Johannesburg, Sechaba was ultimately forced to live on the streets, with no money to return home. He turned to living under a bridge in Balfour Park where some other people were already living. He and his new acquaintances would often sing together in the cold night to comfort themselves.
A local street vender who sold food near that bridge would often hear them singing. She immediately noticed the uniqueness of Sechaba’s powerful voice. She told him that his voice would be his ticket to getting off the streets. Sadly, by this time, Sechaba had become accustomed to life on the streets and wasn’t interested in the woman’s proposal.
During the very cold winter of 2003, Sechaba could no longer handle this harsh environment and decided to pursuit a career as a musician. After much perseverance, he ended up at Mega Music, where he was given a job as a cleaner and accommodation by the lady who was managing the canteen.

The new job at Mega Music opened up many doors for Sechaba. He was always aware of the singing auditions which regularly took place there. However, he had a problem with getting the musicians to take him seriously. It was only when he was given the chance to audition by Lindelani Mkhize that people began to sit up and notice. His outstanding performance that day landed him a position with Joyous Celebration.

Tshepo Nzimande of Bula Music, known to unearth new talent discovered this dynamic & talented young man. He saw the boy’s undeniable potential and offered him the chance to record his very own album. Sechaba had finally got his break.
In 2005 Sechaba went in studio through Bula Music with Tshepo Nzimande behind the project as the producer and a mentor. He pushed Sechaba to the limit, having to give him the training he had never received. Although his voice was untrained and raw, his talent was undeniable. Ultimately it was all more than worth it, having resulted in the radiant self-titled album Sechaba, which took the country by storm, having gone multi platinum. This was enough to confirm Sechaba’s constancy in music industry.

Not forgetting were he came from, after his first album responded well in the market, Sechaba started a winter charity campaign giving away winter clothing, blankets & food to street kids, with the help of a few organizations, he aspires to continue this campaign” I know what its like to live in the streets without proper or enough clothing especially during winter times”, says the selfless Sechaba
